Should I Notify the Insurance Company of an Accident?

by James Holliday, posted in Florida Auto Accident

So after a wreck happens, you do need to notify your own insurance company under the terms of your contract to let them know what happened. Before giving a recorded statement to your own insurance company on the phone, I would strongly urge you to hire a lawyer and be represented for that statement.

In terms of whether you talk to the other driver’s insurance company, that’s not required, and generally, I do not have my clients give a recorded statement to the adverse insurance company, because they’re not there to help, they’re there to try to weaken your case. We will do our own investigation by sending out private investigators to the scene to talk to witnesses, maybe even to try to get the recorded statement of the at fault driver locked down before their insurance company, you know, encourages them not to cooperate. But I would not talk to the other insurance company’s adjuster. I would talk to a lawyer.
